HIGH YOKE BACK
ARMCHAIRS |
In
the Chinese terminology of today these are Guan Mao Yi, 'official hat-shaped
chairs', the name deriving from a supposed resemblance between the square
backs, with the top horizontal rail protruding over the back posts, and
the winged hats were part of the formal dress of Ming officials. |
